Moon Watch Events - Report
We only had 1 of the 3 events due to cloudy Manchester skies. When we did have the skies, the moon was outstanding. Clear and reasonably low, it was available for viewing from 1800 right the way through to the time we had to leave. If you get chance over the next week, take a look, its a great sight at the moment. A gallery of pictures is now available - if anyone wants to submit a picture, email the image to Kevin (kevin AT wdas2.com) Below is a fuller report on the activities.
Report on Moon Watch Events Sadly, Wythenshawe was cancelled due to very overcast skies; however Wednesday at William Hulme's Grammar School was very good. Fortunately, it wasn't too cold for an October evening, but it was certainly cool and you needed warm clothes whilst setting up. We had 12 members attend. There were a variety of telescopes, and binoculars available, including Jason's fantastic mirror. It was a great time to exchange ideas, ask advice, take pictures or just watch the moon and clouds float past with the airplanes landing into Manchester Airport, just above the horizon The air was very transparent which did not obscure the features of the moon. The crater edges along the terminator line were my personal favourite. We did suffer from the upward light pollution of Manchester to see many stars; however we had a surprise with Jupiter being so prominent and bright. The event provided some glorious views over South Manchester of a three-quarter waxing gibbous moon, heading to a full moon on Nov 2. We will see if any images come out, and put them in a gallery. Thanks to all that attended, I certainly enjoyed my time and the advice I got.
