Jason's notes from the meeting November 2012

.

Spica, Saturn, Venus & Mercury

SE before sunset

Time: 27th November 2012.

Between the middle of the month and early into December Venus passes first close to Spica, then very close to Saturn, on the 27th before chasing Mercury through to December.

The Crescent Moon & Mars

Direction SW after sunset 16th Nov.

Mars continues to be visible in the evening twilight and even improves a little towards the end of the month.

Look below the Crescent Moon after sunset (around 17hrs). Binoculars will help!

The Leonid Meteor Shower

Peak on the morning of the 17th - the best time to look is probably after midnight on the 18th as the Moon will have set and radiant is climbing into the Eastern sky. A second peak may occur on the 20th.

Jupiter , The Moon & Aldebaran

Time: 28th November - 22hrs

Jupiter is beautifully placed rising to some 60 degrees above the horizon. Already picturesque next to Aldebaran it is joined by the full Moon on the 28th.
